Rachel Kahan
A passionate advocate for writers and commercial literature, Rachel Kahan is currently Vice President/Executive Editor at William Morrow. In her 30 year career, she has edited dozens of New York Times and international bestsellers while working at Random House, Penguin, and HarperCollins.
Among the recent bestsellers on her list: Philippa Gregory’s Boleyn Traitor, Cara Hunter’s Murder in the Family, Kirsten Miller’s Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books, Isabel Klee’s Dogs, Boys and Other Things I’ve Cried About, Judy Batalion’s The Light of Days, and Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly, which inspired the Oscar-nominated film. Her authors have won or were listed for numerous awards, including the National Book Award, the Women’s Prize for Fiction, the Edgar Award, the NAACP Image Award, the National Jewish Book Award, the Whiting Creative Non-Grant, the Thurber Prize for American Humor, and the Carol Shields Prize.
An avid reader who loves both highbrow and lowbrow culture, Rachel acquires the kinds of books she likes to read: literary and bookclubby fiction, mystery/thrillers, memoir, historical narrative, and issue-driven non-fiction. She proudly publishes a diverse list of writers from around the world, including in translation. Rachel is a sought-after speaker on publishing topics, guest-lecturing at universities around the US and as a fellow at overseas literary festivals in places like Sydney, Manila, Singapore, Vancouver, and Jerusalem. Born and raised in Virginia, she now lives in New York City with her husband, the poet Taylor Mali, and their children.
