Bring Your Narrative Problems to Lisa Unger
with Lisa Unger
Writing is an organic process, which means there’s an ebb and a flow to our creativity. We all know what to do with the flow days, when story is crystal clear, when our characters are speaking to us, when the world and all its demands recede and we can be our most creative selves. We write! But what about the ebb days? How do we break through, find our way when inspiration flags and the narrative grinds to a halt? And is there a value in the ebb days? Instead of a frustration point, can it be a place where ideas gestate, where we can work to fan the flames of creativity?
This is a master class for writers who have a manuscript in progress and want to hash out issues, whether they relate to character, story, the craft of writing, or the larger issues of creativity and carving out time for our work. Students who come to this class should bring their questions and be ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work, digging in deep to what stalls our projects and keeps from accessing our most creative selves. This is not a “how-to” class. As a student in this class, you should already know how to write and what you’re working on, though, of course, craft will be a big part of our conversations. This is more an exploration on all the places we get hung up, and ways to break through to do the best work possible. It’s as dynamic and fun and interesting as the problems you bring, and your willingness to get real about the writing process.
